Getting Started

Check out my new blog where you'll find more posts like this one: http://littlebitofma.blogspot.com.

I'm inspired by a friend of mine to try my hand at couponing. I've run into a few deals thus far and wanted to share those. Plus, I want to document what I've found so I can go back and revisit sites to see if new deals are available!

The first thing I did was actually to set up a second Gmail account, OLDACCT.shop@gmail.com, so that I can consolidate all those emails into one inbox. I even started auto-filtering them by store or brand.

Free Samples:

The most interesting to me right off the bat are the free samples. I had no idea that so many LEGITIMATE websites were available for free samples.

Couponing:

And this week I started tracking some of the deals at my local grocery and drug stores. Not too many interesting things I can take advantage of that would store well, but I did run into a few items worth pursuing!
  • GIANT:
    • $1 Doubler Coupons in the paper this week will double $1 coupons, when usually the store only doubles up to $0.99 coupons!
    • Don't forget they discount your bill $0.05 per reusable bag you bring
  • SAFEWAY:
    • Chobani is 10 for $10 (3/30-4/5), and if you search the Chobani websites coupon section, you'll find $0.50 coupons, which when doubled = $1.00 off ---> $1 - $1 = FREE
  • CVS:
    • Colgate Max Toothpaste or Toothbrush $2.99 + $2.00 ExtraBucks --> $2.99 (unless you can find a coupon)
    • Skintamates Shave Gel is $3.49 and you get $2.50 in ExtraBucks --> $3.49 - $2.00 ExtraBucks from Colgate = $1.49
    • Stove Top is $0.77 / box (3/27-4/2) and you can find a coupon for $0.50 off / box ---> 11 Boxes x $0.77 - $0.50 = $0.22 / box = $2.42 - $2.50 = FREE

Couponing on Your Birthday

Check out my new blog where you'll find more posts like this one: http://littlebitofma.blogspot.com.

May is my birth-month, and I've always enjoyed the little free things you get for your birthday. This year, I did some research and started signing up for a few more perks for my birthday! It also happens to be the month of my anniversary, and some restaurants even send you coupons for that. Isn't that crazy?

Restaurants:
  • Noodles and Co: I signed up and got a free bowl for up to $9 during my birth-month
  • Benihana: Signing up gets you a $30 coupon to print out and redeem every year in your birth-month. Bring an ID to verify it's you though!
  • Maggiano's: By signing up for their email list, you'll get a $10 gift certificate for joining, a $10 gift certificate for your anniversary, and another one for your birthday. For me, that means 3 certificates all in the same month, since I just signed up.
  • Gordon Biersch: You'll get a free app for signing up, and then a mystery card for your birthday.
  • Red Robin: You'll be enrolled in the rewards program "Red Royalty" in which you earn free meals/burgers as you go to Red Robin. You'll also get a free burger on your birthday.
  • La Madeleine: Upon signing up, you'll get a coupon for a free petit salad or cup of soup. On your birthday, you'll get one for a free pastry!
  • Au Bon Pain: I don't know if it's always the same gift, but for signing up I got a coupon for a free travel mug.
Other Food Establishments:
  • Starbucks: If you register your card, you automatically get a free coffee for your birthday. This is any size, any drink, with any modifications. So imagine a venti, extra shot, carmel latte with vanilla flavor added, and soy milk. Keep in mind this is loaded to the card or your SmartPhone app, and they do not send them in the mail anymore. You have to tell the barista to use it, so they won't just use it the first time you have a reward waiting (i.e., they won't use it on a simple cup of coffee, when you're planning for a complex super duper drink!)
  • Ben and Jerry's: Just for signing up you get a free single scoop of ice cream, then again on your birthday you get another one!
  • Baskin Robbins: Free ice cream and $3 off a cake.
  • Dairy Queen: They have a Blizzard Club. For signing up, you get a BOGO coupon for a blizzard, and you'll get a total of 6 in the first year, including one on your birthday!
  • Rita's Italian Ice: Get a special deal on your birthday, though in the past it's always been a free small ice.
Unexpected Deals:
  • Driscoll's: You know, the berry company? They sent me a $0.50 coupon off any berries. It's hard to come across coupons for fresh produce!
I'll amend the post as I redeem more birthday freebies!
